02162008 KATONE REUNITES WITH DAINTY SUICIDE RECORDS After months of disruption and uncertainty, KATONE is again working with former management label, Dainty Suicide Records. The independent label which had given Tris Katone first shot as a solo artist was in a financial demise in 2006 and Tris’ contract was to expire later in the year with one release left. It was at that time that Sanctuary Records Group showed interest in signing KATONE to an initial distribution deal. Dainty Suicide saw Tris had a good opportunity and was able to release him with conditions. There was never a falling out, in fact; the parties split with a solid friendship in early 2006. Dainty Suicide is now in a rebuilding stage; much like it was when just starting out and first seeing Tris’ artistic potential, then ultimately signing him back in 1998. It was Dainty Suicide who gave Tris the artistic freedom that resulted in so many great songs that may never had been if it was another label with another producer. It was Michael DiFilipo, Tris’ long time manager, who had the idea for Tris to simply go under the name “KATONE”. The plan as of now is to redistribute remastered versions of early KATONE Cds. Technically, Dainty Suicide still had the rights to re-release the first three Cds at any time but was never in a position to potentially go head to head with a label like Sanctuary. Now that Tris no longer has ties with Sanctuary, the inevitable is taking place. The demand for early KATONE Cds is stronger than ever and will now be met. During the tour last summer, everyone wanted the early releases but few could get their hands on copies. Whatever was still floating around was given away in promotional contests or handed out to radio stations. There was never a guarantee that Sanctuary was ever going to work along with the people from Dainty Suicide to get the earlier music properly distributed to fans. Illegal downloads of KATONE Cds have been flying around the internet for years. KATONE.COM, Myspace.com and others have supplied fans with m4a files and “thin” sounding mp3s, but not since the initial releases has the music been heard the way it was meant to be heard. The remastered songs sound tremendous and fans should hear a difference immediately. Remastered versions of “Plastic Udder” and “The Next Devil” are now available at Amazon.com and Emusic.com. The Cds will be released on Itunes early March and in stores this summer. Tris and Dainty Suicide are also discussing distribution of new KATONE music. Renee Marks KATONE.COM Editor-in-chief 09092007 SUMMER TOUR GOES OUT WITH A BANG The KATONE Summer tour 2007 finished in New York last night but not before the band put on an explosive two and a half hour epic finale. Many fans arrived early for an extended meet and greet which lasted up until a half an hour before show time. The band was tight as usual and Tris gave much credit to the guys individually throughout the night. Make no mistake; last night was not an award show acceptance speech by any stretch. There were no tears or hugs or any of the other things that some bands do on their final nights of touring – not on stage anyway. The stage was strictly for the ass kicking that took place – no less. The song list included every song that had been played or alternated throughout the tour and the crowd was on their feet for most of the show. Like the previous three shows, there was free admission for the last half hour for standing room only, which was limited to begin with. The night ended with an hour long signing session immediately following the show. Tris and the band gave autographs and posed for photos with fans. The tour was a success – and it was completed on a great note. During the course of the tour there were many shows. The band played nearly every night. There was close to twice as many shows played than an average summer tour. There was a lot squeezed in to a short period of time. There were very few problems that arose during the tour. The first few shows there were fans rushing the stage which presented a close catastrophe. A week later, Tris was confronted on a radio show by a set of concerned parents about “questionable” stage behavior and other issues with the show. The past month there were serious weather conditions and flooded roadways to contend with. But no one in the band or crew saw anything threatening as a whole. No shows were cancelled and no problems really ended up amounting to anything. The crew was an assembly of professionals who have toured with nearly anyone who comes to mind. Almost every night, loads of sound gear, lights, and screen equipment was relocated and set up in minimal time. Hats go off to the crew. After 46 rock solid shows, mostly everyone has called it a day. Most of the band already lives in New York. Tris returned to his Philadelphia home this morning. There is much to think about after this whirlwind spring and summer, and plenty to get caught up on. Renee Marks Editor-in-chief KATONE.COM 09082007 THE ROAD HOME KATONE arrives back in New York City this afternoon to prepare for the final show of his Summer Tour 2007. The band will be home and Tris will be about two hours from his home outside of Philadelphia for the first time since mid June. The celebrating actually started earlier in the week when the band kicked off a series of shows through the New England states. And now, after 45 shows across Canada and back through the US, Tris and the guys are right back where they performed and tightened up their show for the tour. “As far as I’m concerned, these guys are the KATONE tour band”, said Tris. “It wasn’t formed to play a single summer tour. There’s a ton of talent within this group and I’m hoping everyone will be around for some time to come. There are a lot of things coming up to where I’ll need them around. We’ll see how everyone feels next week after they get some rest in. No one is ever quite the same after doing something like this (the tour). It was a little extensive for a summer tour but I feel like I could start all over again right now, but I’m sure I’m going to collapse after tonight’s show”, Tris added. Renee Marks Editor-in-chief KATONE.COM 09072007 HUGE NIGHT IN HARTFORD First off, last night’s show in Boston was a great success, and stood out as being my favorite KATONE show so far. From the early meet and greet to the final encore, everything was about as perfect as it gets. The band opened with “Yours Truly” and played for about two hours. The encores were GRIND, Slut, and Wild Thing. The crowd was into the show long before the band took the stage and many happy fans walked away with autographs from the band. The highlight was the entire show! No stage rushing, no microphone stands being pulled down, and not a single fight outside before the show. The sound was as great as ever and the band played with huge intensity. Tris was Tris. Tonight’s show in Hartford is expected to be a huge party. Nothing less. It’s a homecoming for birthday boy, Rick Pierce. It’s also a big birthday weekend for two sound crew members, Matt and Tony. ALSO, tonight’s show is the last official road show of the summer before heading back to New York for the finale tomorrow night. Renee Marks Editor-in-chief KATONE.COM 09062007 FINALLY, BOSTON! As the KATONE camp rolled into the Massachusetts area last night, there seemed to be a surge of anticipation through the band bus. I haven’t traveled with the band often enough to be familiar with what goes on in between shows, but every band member is very vocal about how psyched they are to play tonight’s sold out Boston show. The fans have been looking forward to this show all summer as well. There’s a surge in the air here this morning as if lightening is about to strike. As the band gets to these last scheduled dates, fans have had more than enough time to hear about the shows and by the time the lights go down, everything comes to a head. I noticed that Tuesday in Portland. People are ready and have waited an entire summer to see and hear what they’ve heard so much about through the months. The mail has quadrupled since early June. It’s as if every show played notices more and more people listening to KATONE music. It’s like when Tris says, “it’s getting there”. To me it seems like it’s already “there”, and then another huge outpour of mail comes in with fans wanting the band to play on the other side of the world. Literally! As I’m sitting at a Burger King rest area in Massachusetts this morning, I find myself looking more forward to the show tonight. Every show I’ve seen held something a little different and unique. But last night I heard something one of the band members said under their breath that has me already waiting for this show. They said, “Finally, Boston”. Renee Marks Editor-in-chief KATONE.COM 09032007 KATONE BEGINS NEW ENGLAND RUN With just a few remaining summer tour dates, KATONE starts a three night series through the New England area tomorrow night in Portland, Maine. While planning the tour last spring, the dates were considered “throw ins” to come full circle before finishing off back in New York. However, the anticipation has been mounting over the course of the tour and many new fans have surfaced, especially in the northern states. The “New England Run” has become just as big as any stretch of dates throughout the tour. In addition to tomorrow’s Portland show, the band will perform in Boston, Massachusetts on Thursday, and continue Friday night in Hartford, Connecticut which is Rick Pierce’s hometown, and Friday also happens to be his birthday. Thanks to all who came out and put the Pittsburgh show through the roof Saturday night. The show was billed as a homecoming show for Tris and admission was free for standing room only for the last half hour. The entire show was video taped and recorded for future release. Renee Marks Editor-in-chief KATONE.COM 09012007 BACK TO BUSINESS; SUMMER TOUR RESUMES IN CINCINNATI After a four day break, KATONE continued the summer “Flaming Retrosexual Tour” last night in Cincinnati, Ohio. Everyone appeared to be refreshed and ready to tackle the remaining six shows of tour. The band came out and immediately blew through a fast, hard version of "Between The eyes” and never looked back. The crowd was well into the show from the beginning and commanded a three song encore at the end of the show. All throughout the show there was great contact with the fans. There was a signing session just after the show and it seemed no one left disappointed. Tris returns to his home state tonight for a much anticipated concert in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. R.M. 08292007 BAND ON THE RUN Shortly after finishing up the second show in Detroit on Sunday night, the band had something staring them in the face which they hadn’t seen much of since mid June – free time. With the Cincinnati show not taking place until Friday night, the band and crew are taking full advantage of the time they have to stretch their legs. The buses left for a very soggy Ohio yesterday afternoon. With many surrounding areas being flooded, most of the KATONE camp is holed up in a Cincinnati hotel, but some have insisted on not letting anything get in the way of their days off – especially the weather. While Kel, Rick, and some members of the crew left immediately for Cleveland to visit the Rock and Roll hall of fame, others chose to look for signs of life around town and close to the hotel. Tris stayed behind in Detroit to visit with friends and will meet up with the band Friday afternoon at sound check. Mark is also hanging with friends and is doing some writing. The band is catching up with itself after a whirlwind summer, and the final stretch of the tour is closing in. With just six remaining shows, everyone in the band still insists that every show will continue to be just as wild and intense as any other given night. According to Tris, there is no such thing as winding down. The KATONE Summer Tour 2007 will be going out with an explosive finale, no doubt. This short break, ironically, is the calm before the storm. R.M. 08292007 CINCINNATI IS A GO After a painstaking week of working through severe weather problems, KATONE will in fact perform in Cincinnati this Friday night. The show was never officially cancelled but confirmation was needed that it was going to be a safe environment for a concert come this weekend. R.M. 08262007 SUMMER TOUR BACK ON TRACK After battling horrible weather and road conditions in Chicago, the band appears to be back on schedule without missing a note. For the first time this tour, the crew had a major road decision to make… stay in Chicago which had already been flooded out and severely damaged in some areas, or follow the storms to Michigan, where four small tornados had already touched down outside of Detroit. At first the buses couldn’t move if they wanted to because the main highway was closed and littered with debris. Yesterday morning the buses set forth for Detroit but needed to deal with storms along the way, but “business as usual” was the mindset of the day. By last night, the weather was perfect for a KATONE show. Fans showed up early and left late. The band put on a hell of a show from start to finish, and are looking forward to finishing out their last two-nighter of the tour with a huge bang tonight! Looking ahead to the Cincinnati show next Friday night, there is still a big question mark about how badly the storms hit in Ohio and where, and if a cancellation would be appropriate. After tonight's show, the band and crew have the next four days off to rest and recollect. Hopefully, upon return to the road, the weather will not be a factor in the destination of this outstanding tour. R.M. UPDATE 8/25/07 8:23 AM As of 6:15 am this morning, the band and crew were able to make their way out of the heavily flooded Chicago area and are currently in route to Detroit. Both KATONE Shows for this weekend are on as scheduled. R.M. 08242007 RIDING THE STORM OUT The KATONE Summer Tour is currently stalled because of severe weather conditions. The crew and band are still in Chicago as a result of last night’s flooding and high wind storms. The show was close to being cancelled but proceeded despite two short electrical outages occurring just minutes before the band took the stage. The sold out show went on and was successful with the three quarter capacity crowd that showed up. The band will be moving on to Detroit where the conditions are reportedly getting worse by the hour and a severe storm warning is currently in effect. Saturday’s Detroit show is not expected to be cancelled as clearing conditions are being forecasted by show time. R.M. 08232007 CHICAGO TONIGHT! KATONE Summer Tour 2007 blows through the windy city for a single sold out show tonight. The band is once again ready to flex their muscles after an explosive show in Memphis on Tuesday. “Keeping the momentum flowing doesn’t seem to be any problem with this particular group of guys”, Tris explained about his band mates. “No matter how much traveling it takes to get from there to here, they are always good to go on the night of the show. I’m looking forward to many many more shows with these psychopaths”, Tris added. In addition, Tris is not confirming or denying rumors about a Spring tour kicking off in March which includes some UK dates. “I’m not going to get into all of that right now”, said Tris. “One thing at a time is all I’m saying”, he added. KATONE hits Detroit for two shows this Saturday and Sunday before beginning a string of shows leading back to the East Coast. R.M. 08212007 THE ROAD TO MEMPHIS With a couple short days of rest, Tris and the guys are ready to suit up and bring another loaded show. The band arrives in Memphis, Tennessee sometime this afternoon on the heels of two great Louisiana shows that more than lived up to fan’s expectations. KATONE played Baton Rouge on Friday night, and took a short trip to New Orleans for a well received Saturday night concert. The band is not showing any signs of wear due to the fact that they are 36 dates into the short summer tour. Every time they hit the stage, it is like night number one of a brand new tour. The extended travel time has allowed the guys to reconnect with family members and with each other. From here on out the schedule consists of all big cities. According to Tris, this is the time to “bump everything up a notch.” The last ten shows are also loaded with signing sessions. Either before or after the shows, the band will have a chance to meet fans for autographs and photos. Up until now, the sessions have been sporadic, depending on how quickly the band had to leave to get to the next city or town. The feeling I’m getting is that the band is not going to start “winding down” just because they are down to the last ten shows of the tour. Plenty of road, plenty of shows, plenty of fans. The concert was long awaited and fans clearly showed that they were ready for everything that Tris and the guys served up. From the opening chord of “Yours Truly”, to the third encore, “Between The Eyes”, to the hour-long signing session after the show, the one night love affair in Baton Rouge, Louisiana was a massive success! The band is set to arrive in New Orleans around 12:00 this afternoon. Another huge night is expected. As of just an hour ago at a rest station, it was made known to the crew that at least four cars were following the buses since they left Baton Rouge early this morning. This was not unusual during the Canadian leg of the tour when the band had shorter drives from city to city. Some fans plan their weeks to travel for back to back KATONE shows. The following is an unedited review of Tuesday night’s show in Tulsa. It was sent in to KATONE.COM by a fan through an E-mail. “KATONE KATONE KATONE!!!! The flaming retrosexual came in like a hurricane with a quick destructive eye!! The band came on stage first and played an instrumental song that I have never heard before but it had little pieces of KATONE songs in it. The light show was going with the music and the big screen was showing Tris walking through a big hall. It looked like it was back stage and he was walking to the stage. It was really cool. Then Mr. Katone slowly walked through the fog, looking slowly around through the crowd as they went CRAZY and got to the microphone just in time to sing the first line of yours truly. Yours truly went right into a bite out of you after a few minutes. I have to say that this was the first time a road crew guy threw a guitar to Tris from like 20 feet away and he caught it perfectly! They were throwing guitars back and forth all night. Not one dropped guitar!! I never saw anything like that before. Next song was Mr. Supernatural which was really slow and loud and then it was the first of many ALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL RIGHT MOTHERFUCKERS!!!!!! Suck my pain was next and another guitar thrown to Tris. There was a break in the middle of the song where the band stopped and the crowd sang the chorus to the song. At the end of the song Tris was saying something to the crowd but I could not understand it too good. Whatever he was saying, the people up front were going ballistic. VIP was next and the giant screen was showing spades circling and turning into different things like a corvette and a guitar. There was a camera guy going through the crowd and people were making crazy faces and some girls flashed their boobs. At the end of the song Tris said everyone in the audience were stars! A pull and a kick was next but it was a faster version of the original and the band played longer in the middle. People were moshing towards the front of the stage all during the song and the back screen was showing an x rated cartoon. The drummer played a drum solo then started the beginning to a new song called do me. The people in the front were still moshing. The song was great! Everything got dark and a little green light showed up on the screen. It turned into a K then an A and spelled out KATONE, then the sound effects to planet fake started. It was this whole computer thing going on the screen and Tris came back out with a makeup line across his eyes. Planet fake was fuckin amazing! Skin kidd ego was next and also sounded really great. The crowd was singing most of the song like on the cd. The band played like a gun next and Tris sang the song on the side of the stage while the screen showed a little girl getting pushed around in a school yard and she ended up hanging herself. It was like a little movie that went right along with the music. Kind of a downer but still really well done. After another ALLLLLLLLLLLL RIGHT MOTHERFUCKERS!!!!!! Tris introduced all the guys in his band. They were EXCELLENT!! The guitarist is super hot! Tris asked the crowd what song they wanted the band to play. He said he was taking requests, but NO KATONE SONGS ALLOWED!!! Somebody requested money by pink floyd, the band huddled up for a second and started playing the song! It sounded great! Tris sang it to a tee! Then somebody else requested another song I didn’t know and they played part of that too, and they also played basket case by green day! LOL!!! It was so fuckin on!! Ok, so after all of that everything got dark again and the screen showed stars and planets zooming around and Tris came out with an acoustic guitar and they played a new song called on Jupiter. The whole stage fogged up and you could only really see Tris and the screen with all the stuff going on. It looked SO COOL!!!!!! The next song was burn it go. It sounded just like the cd. Tris can scream his ass off. Next was I carved my name on you. It was a little slower than the regular version but it was really cool how 3 of the guys in the band were playing keyboards. It sounded so fuckin hot! Another guitar thrown to Tris going like 90 miles an hour caught perfectly. Lol!! Tris was high fiving people at the end of the song and slowly left the stage. The band finished up and also started high fiving the crowd. Tris came back out and took a bow with the band. I got great pictures of that. Anyway, they all came back out in a few minutes and another ALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL RIGHT MOTHERFUCKERS!!!!!!!!! The next song was my favorite song slut! Tris did this long rambling on thing in the middle while the lights were taking turns flashing on girls who were FLASHING! lol!!!! I don’t think I’ll ever experience anything like that ever again. It was so off the hook it was funny. The last song was grind. That was just as fuckin nuts. Tris did this whole porn star thing and pretended to fuck everyone in his band. And then brought a girl AND a guy up on stage and did the same thing to them! It was pretty amazing!! The song sounded so great. The band was so fuckin awesome. Tris was dripping sweat like the entire time. I know I’m leaving some songs and other things out but I just got home and a little worn out. What a great fuckin show! After two very intense shows in Phoenix, the KATONE camp packed up and are currently making their way to Tulsa, Oklahoma to begin a long stretch of “one-niters” with many miles of road in between shows. Summer Tour 2007 is far from over and there are still big shows at hand. This phase, however, does allow some well deserved rest days for a band that has played practically every night for the past month and a half. The song list has been changed around more frequently from night to night mainly because fans are now looking forward to the new tracks that the band has been slipping in and alternating at different shows. New KATONE music has been in demand for quite some time now, and the new 12 song CD has been completed just over a year and awaiting a roster spot for release, and now, looking at another possible but unlikely delay since Sanctuary Records has been bought out by Universal Music Group. The good news is that three new KATONE tracks have been posted to a new page on the website that can be accessed by clicking on the “new trax” banner. Head over to the page and crank up your speakers! These new songs have been played nightly at KATONE shows since the beginning of the tour and are buzzing as new fan favorites. The song “On Jupiter” steals the show almost nightly with lighting effects and incredible synchronized video footage playing on the big screen behind the band. Several special moments during and after the shows proved that Tris has not forgotten his roots. From extended versions of songs, to special dedications, it was clear that the past week was traveled on KATONE’s once beaten trail. “Some people here have been coming to see me since my first tour”, said Tris. “There are alot of great memories tucked away in these places, and I got to see some of my friends as well, although it was impossible to get to see everyone I was looking forward to catching up with in such a short period of time. This is where my soul lives, I just come and visit it sometimes”, Tris added. Tonight, Tris and the guys begin a two night engagement in Phoenix. Both shows are sold out. R.M. 08052007 HOMECOMING IN CALI After two huge shows in Las Vegas, KATONE is currently in route to California for three homecoming shows. Tris toured the California club circuit in 2002, and returned for a lengthy but fragmented promotional tour in 2004. The 2002 “Plastic Tour” was the first time KATONE hit the road as a solo artist. The reviews were coming in spades from some fans that had seen the band up to eighteen times. And so, the “E.C.I. Tour” was soon to follow, where again, ninety percent of the shows were played throughout California to promote “Erotic Crystallization Inertia”. For almost four straight years, California was home to Tris and his band, “The Plastic Brethren Union”. KATONE returns to play Berkeley on Monday, Los Angeles on Tuesday, and San Diego on Wednesday night. R.M. 08012007 PARTY IN PORTLAND “I’ll most definitely be coming back here soon; in fact, next time I come to Portland I’m going to bring a band with me and I assure you it’s going to kick your ass.” That was what Tris said on the air nearly a year ago when he stopped off in Portland during his Making Waves radio tour. Tris held true to his word, and along with his band, he took Portland by storm last night. The highlights of the show were seemingly the same as every night so far… a huge entrance, the crowd, the songs, the visuals, the lights, the ****, and yes, YOU, the ones who stood on your feet the entire time and sang along to your favorite KATONE songs. Of course, there was “Skin Kidd Ego” and “GRIND” and all of the rest, but many have been raving about the newer songs from the still unreleased “Killer”. Songs like “Do Me”, “What Did You Do?” and especially “On Jupiter” have been fast becoming fan favorites. I have to say for myself that the visuals and lights during “On Jupiter” are astounding. There are also very large fans on the sides of the stage that blow inward during parts of the song. I can’t see that song not being a huge hit upon its release. Many requests are coming in to have some of the new songs placed on KATONE.COM. Unfortunately, that is not an option at this time but we’re working on at least getting some clips of the songs up so that they can be heard. KATONE’S “Flaming Retrosexual Tour” begins a big United States run tonight in Seattle, Washington. The highly anticipated Summer Tour will hit 20 cities for 24 shows before finishing up in September. Many of the shows are one night only engagements which have been sold out since May. The Canadian leg of the tour finished out with a bang in Victoria on Wednesday night. KATONE played well over two hours and turned out a high energy, blistering show from beginning to end. Many fans from Vancouver followed the band to the final shows to get yet another blast of live KATONE music pumping through their veins. Looking ahead, there are many more cities to go on this tour. The band appears to be having a great time and Tris’ voice is doing just fine (for all who have asked). Speaking of the start of the tour, there have been some changes and certainly some highlights since Tris and the guys first took the stage in Toronto over a month ago. The first two nights there was almost a continuing flow of people running up onto the stage, and it was clear that there was going to be a security issue. A few nights later in Kitchener, the stage was rushed during the last song and the problem was finally approached seriously after some amplifiers had been knocked over and a falling cymbal stand just missed one fan’s head by mere inches. Problem resolved! More recently, callers on a promotional morning radio program confronted Tris about some things they didn’t find “fitting” for a younger fan base, but since then, very few people have voiced any concerns about the show. Night after night Tris and the band, with very few breaks, has continued to rock hard and show big fan appreciation. Kanada has shown Tris that he is welcome back any time to perform. Many have already expressed that they can’t wait for the band to return. Tonight’s closing show should be a huge one! See you there! Renee Marks Editor-in-chief KATONE.COM 07222007 LAST STOP VICTORIA After four big shows in Vancouver, KATONE moves on to Victoria to finish up the Canadian leg of the tour. Vancouver was where Tris and the boys settled in for the entire past week. Hotel rooms took the place of the bus and allowed a much deserved rest for the band and crew. It all paid off when KATONE took the stage. Everyone appeared to be energized during the week long stint and it showed in many ways. The shows themselves ran longer than usual and there were additional encores. The band was able to spend more time meeting and greeting fans… many who had come to more than one show. The song list was different from night to night. The band plowed through some KATONE songs like, “A Fine Point”, which has never been played live before, and also broke out old live favorites like “Artificial Intelligence” for the first time this tour. The band is currently in route to Victoria for a two night engagement which wraps up the Canadian leg of KATONE Summer Tour 2007 on Wednesday. R.M. 07172007 VANCOUVER ROCKS! It’s the only four night stretch on the entire tour and night number one will go in the books as being completely aggressive and hard from beginning to end. Tris and the band just finished a two hour show that just may be the most powerful to date. Coming right out and blasting through “Between The Eyes” was a good indication that this stop on the tour is going to be a special one. At one point, Tris called Vancouver “the rock capital of Canada” and an enormous roar came from what seemed to be the entire crowd. The band finished the show with the closing section of “The Next Devil”. The energy was at a boiling point. However, the show wasn’t without its spellbinding moments with almost haunting versions of “On Jupiter” and “I Carved My Name On You”. It seems as though KATONE will be leaving a mark as the Canadian leg of the tour begins to wind down. R.M. 07152007 CLEAR ACROSS KANADA – ON TO VANCOUVER The KATONE camp will spend the next two days resting up and making their way to Vancouver for a huge four night engagement. The past two nights in Edmonton went off without a hitch. There were very few people involved with the campaign to “enlighten” parents on the “indecent” behavior taking place at KATONE shows. Callers tried drilling Tris on a promotional radio station visit Thursday afternoon concerning some actions that took place the night before at the Calgary show. One caller went as far as to say the show should have an “R rating”. There was no follow up to anything that was said on Thursday that affected the shows whatsoever. It was business as usual both nights. The “Audience Request” segment of the show is getting rave reviews, and people are now writing in to the website in advance on what songs they’d like to hear KATONE perform in their town. What started out as a brief improvisational way of introducing the members of the band has now become a staple in the show. Since the start of the tour, Tris and the band have ripped through short versions of songs by Jimi Hendrix, The Doors, Alanis Morissette, Pink Floyd, Kiss, Britney Spears, Marilyn Manson, Johnny Cash, Aerosmith, AC/DC and many more. There are no requests being taken by e-mail because the band chooses to keep the segment spontaneous. No song played at any of the shows has ever been rehearsed in advance. The main song list has remained somewhat the same throughout the Canadian leg of the tour with the exception of new songs being alternated from night to night. “Do Me” is becoming a fan favorite. On to Vancouver! R.M. 07132007 CONTROVERSY BREWING IN EDMONTON? When KATONE rolled into Edmonton, Alberta yesterday afternoon, everything appeared to be status quo. The band had a day off to rest and Tris had one radio station appearance to promote tonight’s Friday the 13th show. It seems that callers (at least two) were expressing “concern” about Tris’ show. Apparently, they were talking about certain moments in the show regarding audience participation. One caller expressed a strong dislike toward Tris. When asked if he’s ever seen KATONE, the caller said “no”. Tris stated the following in a phone conversation last night: “I don’t have a lot to say about what happened this afternoon. Everyone is entitled to their opinions. I love my audiences and often share the spotlight with them. What they choose to do with their moment is on them. Sometimes people don’t agree with how others choose to show their appreciation. I’m not going to get into that right now. I’ve come under fire before, and just like today, people showed me nothing but ignorance. We’re not going to let a few ruin this show. There’s not a chance in hell of that happening.” R.M. 07102007 CALGARY TONIGHT! THE BOYS ARE BRINGING IT. KATONE rocks Calgary tonight for the first of two shows. Fresh off of a hot one night stand in Saskatoon, Tris and his band are suiting up for what has been anticipated as being a highlight on the Canadian leg of the tour. Tris is sounding ecstatic about his band and can’t have enough good things to say about “the boys”. Kyle, Rick, Paul, Mark, and Kel are making their mark for sure. And, more and more mail is beginning to come in regarding these great players. They are all getting their fans. “I think it’s fabulous”, said Tris. "If they continue to show up and do what they’ve been doing night after night, then they are certainly earning their spotlight. They’re a great group of people, and right now, I wouldn’t want it any other way”, he added. R.M. 07062007 KANADA LOVES KATONE KATONE returns to Winnipeg this weekend for two shows beginning tonight. The first half of the Canadian segment of the tour has been a great success and part two is expected to be no different. Tris considers most of Canada like a “second home” because he’s performed and toured here throughout the years and most recently made two separate visits to the north in 2006 during his Making Waves radio tour. The band will wrap up in Victoria with two big shows on July 24th and 25th before hitting the states to a welcoming Seattle crowd at the end of the month. Last night’s show in London, Ontario was explosive and possibly the biggest yet. The band closed the night with three encore songs and turned out a riveting version of Sardonic Dejection. R.M. 07042007 HAPPY INDEPENDENCE DAY! Tris Katone and company will be appearing in London, Ontario tonight and tomorrow for two shows. It will bring the band right smack in the middle of a six show stretch. Will the band show any signs of wear by the end of the week? I doubt it. I haven’t seen KATONE since opening night of the tour, but I have interviewed Tris and the band, and have spoken to Tris everyday on the phone, and they are UP. They appear to be a band on a mission. I heard Tris was “mouthy” on the mic last night in Kitchener and nearly caused an eruption. This tour is just getting underway. I wouldn’t be surprised at anything I hear from here on out. The shows so far have been consistently packed. Tris, along with the band, have been spot on with their performances. Fans have been showing enthusiasm and dedication. Some have been to every show. The stage got rushed the other night in Montreal during the last song. Tris expressed afterward that he “loved it”. Some stage equipment had fallen but no one got hurt. There will be more security on hand at the Kitchener shows, and probably all of the shows here on out. “After a certain point I feel like they are the show and I’m the audience”, said Tris. “I love feeling them (the crowd) around me. I love all the sweat. If I had my way I’d have them up every night. And then we could all go out for milk and cookies afterward”, he added. R.M. 06272007 NEXT STOP MONTREAL – THREE’S A CHARM KATONE has kept busy the past few days preparing and “working out the kinks” for what is to be a tedious stretch of road for the rest of the summer. It’s also been a big week of promoting the three night stretch in Montreal beginning tomorrow night. Tris explained Tuesday morning on a local morning radio show that, “This is it. At this point we’ve had the run through and we changed a few minor things in the show. It’s strictly a summer tour. It’s going to be a tour to just have a blast doing what I do. If last week's shows were any indication of what’s to come, It’s going to be hot, dirty and nasty, and I’m looking forward to every city and every second on the schedule”, Tris added. The idea to add Denver, CO, and Washington, DC to the schedule has been scrapped because they could not be worked into the current travel time frame. R.M. 06232007 OPENING NIGHT KATONE Summer Tour 2007 is underway. Opening night is in the books. The show was one to remember, as it was one of the wildest shows I have ever been to. Tris and Mark visited two local radio stations yesterday afternoon to talk about the tour and the Toronto appearances. The band took the stage at 9:00 pm and ripped through a set loaded with energy and chaos. The song list was much different from the warm up shows. Some of the guys switch instruments for different songs. Tris wanted to show off his new band and took requests for a brief segment. Two of the songs were quick versions of Oops I did it again by Britney Spears and Paranoid by Black Sabbath. The show was loaded with other highlights. People were running up onto the stage, and as security was escorting them down, Tris was waving more people up. A girl made her way up to the stage during GRIND and took off her top. Tris put a dollar bill in her belt. Along with the fun came intensity, and the show was loaded with it. Songs like Mr. Supernatural, I Carved My Name On You, My Only Ever, Blue Devils, and Planet Fake, were very powerful and sincere. As opening night approaches, finishing touches are still being added to the song list and stage show. The final dates have been added to the schedule and the band is ready. Tris appears to be calmer as the tour approaches. “The hard part is done”, said Tris. “I’ve been working feverishly since January to get this band right and to get it polished. We’ve been doing shows since March and tying all the elements together. I feel like we’re ready and road worthy at this point. I’m greatly looking forward to getting out there and breaking it down. I have an axe to grind, and I want to do serious damage in all aspects of the word”. The 46 date Summer Tour kicks off this Friday night in Toronto, Canada. The set list includes songs from all four KATONE cds including new material from the forthcoming “Killer”. R.M. 05252007 NEW TOUR DATES While the first leg of the KATONE Summer Tour 2007 is carved in stone, new U.S. dates are being added almost daily to the second leg which is now expected to roll into the second week of September. New dates include Las Vegas, NV, a string of shows in California, AZ, TX, New Orleans, Chicago, and Detroit, among others. All dates will be posted before the start of the tour this coming month. R.M. 05152007 KATONE SUMMER TOUR KICKS OFF IN JUNE KATONE hits the road this June for his 2007 Summer Tour. “The Flaming Retrosexual Tour” will begin in Canada the third week of June. Concert Dates will be posted to KATONE.COM this Friday, May 18th. KATONE has not toured in concert since his successful 2004 E.C.I. Tour. However, Tris did travel from state to state in 2006 for his Making Waves radio station tour and claimed he was “starving” to perform his songs live. After battling vocal chord polyps, spending two years working on a new cd, and signing with a new label, KATONE is more than ready to once again hit the road. R.M. 04292007 KATONE LIVING UP TO THE HYPE Tris Katone and his band are still making their rounds through the New York City club circuit. What started out as a mini warm up tour is turning into a huge draw in the big city. “I was never really concerned about packing them into to these clubs”, said Tris. “I’ve been focusing more on what I have to build upon. A couple of these guys in the band have never been on a larger scale tour but they’ve had their share of playing these places. I like the fact that people are following us around here. I think it’s a great sign, but I’m not going to lose sight of the fact that these are rehearsal shows and there’s still work to do before we go to the next level”, Tris added. KATONE played a pair of shows at The Fairview on Friday and Saturday night and big numbers showed up at the brand new club to see the band and the man. The song list has changed from night to night but the band continues to perform a good mix of older and newer songs, as well as putting on consistently energetic shows. In recent weeks, the band has been staying in Manhattan and keeping the licks hot while the summer tour schedule is being completed. “What a place to prep a band”, claimed Tris. “The best of the best are right here in this city slugging it out and we’re just showing up and having a blast. Fuck yeah! Our new hall is right in the center of Manhattan and it’s like the old school days where we just bring our axes, tear the places apart and leave. We are working on these issues and hope to have all the bugs out shortly. R.M. 03182007 BIG NUMBERS SHOW UP IN PHILLY It was a white St. Patrick’s party in Philadelphia last night. The snow covered city was crawling with those insistent upon having their big party night. And the KATONE show was no different. Over 1,200 showed up to see Tris and his new band play a free concert at the large rehearsal hall in which the band was using to tighten up the lighting and sound. The concert was announced on KATONE.COM just this past Thursday morning. Word spread quickly that there was limited admission and the limit had been reached inside of a few hours. The response showed a great interest from the fans, and therefore an additional hundred people were added to a waiting list as reserves for no shows. Everyone who showed up was eventually packed into the hall. No one was turned away. The band took the stage in casual attire at 7:45 and plowed through a mix of old and new songs. Please be patient, this added space will allow more songs, photos, features, etc. R.M. 03012007 AN AFTERNOON WITH TRIS KATONE It is Thursday evening, March 1st. I am relaxing in a Philadelphia hotel room and packing for my drive back to New York tomorrow morning. Today, I got to meet up with Tris Katone for only the third time since writing for KATONE.COM, Tris’ official web site, and following his career for the better part of the past eight months. I have been in town since Sunday afternoon taking care of my own business. It was already discussed about me attending a KATONE rehearsal while in town, so I wasn’t entirely surprised when Tris called me yesterday morning and invited me to the hall that the band has been practicing for the past month. I met up with Tris at 10:00 am for a quick breakfast at a small diner in the city. From there it was on to see what I have been hearing so much about since mid January. When we arrived at the hall I felt excited and anxious. A lighting company arrived today and started setting up a full system to begin practicing with the band and brought loads of lights and scaffolding which they were setting up the entire afternoon. The hall was taking on the look of a concert hall and Tris looked in his element. After introducing me to the members of the band the rehearsal got underway. The drummer counted out and the band kicked into “Mr. Supernatural.” The sound was loud and powerful and Tris’ voice was processed with the usual special effects. The last time I saw Tris play was at a radio station in New York with just his acoustic guitar and this was so very different. The next song was one of the new ones from Killer called “Do Me”, and then the band went right into “I Carved My Name On You”. That is my favorite KATONE song and I found myself in a trance watching Tris do his thing. The screams were right on the money. Tris is playing more keyboards then I thought he would. He played and sang a solo version of “My Only Ever” on the piano and it was beautiful. The band played two more new songs and then “Skin Kidd Ego” and “Slut”. It all sounded really great. I heard a lot about Tris’ performances and he lived up to all of the hype. The band took a break and had a meeting about some of the music. Afterwards, Tris came over and asked me how everything sounded. We talked about a few different things and what he was planning for certain songs. I am really excited about seeing all of this live. Tris said something to me that took me by surprise when we were talking about the Killer cd. I told him how surprised I was that the new songs were still so sexual falling under the name Killer. He told me that Killer wasn’t about a murderer or anything violent at all. He told me that Killer is the nickname of the greatest lover in the world. I felt that I should have known that bit of information before now. It made sense after hearing the music. And all this time I had serial killers in mind for the theme. Break was over and the band started back with “Yours Truly” and “Suck My Pain”. It was great to hear these songs done live. I have to say that the band overall sounds and looks hot. I got a picture with the band afterward and got back to my room about an hour ago. I’m looking at the guitar pic that Tris gave me that’s blessed with a simple “K”. What an afternoon! I feel intoxicated. Tris jokingly told me to go and write something for the site. And here it is. Renee Marks KATONE.COM Editor-in-chief 02052007 TOUR BAND 2007 REHEARSALS Rehearsals begin today in Philadelphia for Tris and his new tour band. The band has been working on songs individually for the past three weeks and they are bringing it all together now for the first time. “Right now, the plan is to get everything as tight as possible with the songs and to get musically acquainted with these guys”, explained Tris. “They’re a pretty explosive cast of characters and I’m really looking forward to seeing them do their thing. These practices are paramount for me because I have to get this voice back in road shape. When we’re good to go we’ll start doing some smaller, local shows here in Philly, New York and New Jersey to tweak the show for the road.” R.M. 01212007 “ALL THE PIECES FIT” KATONE 2007 TOUR BAND COCKED AND LOADED Word is in that Tris has found the final piece to his 2007 tour band. “I was taking my time looking for the right keyboardist”, said Tris. “I needed someone who could cover all the sounds and nail the piano parts as well. It looks like I have the right guys here. All the pieces fit, and it was worth the extra time it took to find everyone. Rehearsals start in a few weeks.
